So with Age of Conan’s release we weren’t really sure how hardcore we’d be in this game. While we still don’t expect to be a hardcore raid guild that spends every waking moment in-game we’ve definitely enjoyed the PvP aspect and the game does get better as you progress. The fighting system is challenging and fun and surprisingly, some of the classes truly do rock! So yes, we’ll be playing this one for awhile. As you can see below we’ve already begun construction of Hostilia and our city will flourish as people continue to level, gather and get richer. Our numbers continue to grow with old and new blood picking up the game daily so it’s important to note our recruitment policy if you’re interested in joining in on the fun.

As I am sure you’re sick of hearing, the Ht Ultimate is underway with the MLB season beginning. While the pack of sports nerds can now figure out who’s the best of the best the rest of the IRC denizens must be glad we’ve move most of it over to #HostileSports. As much of a headache administering the 1st fantasy league has been so far (can’t please everyone!) this has still been one of the best pools I’ve been a part of so far and even though baseball is one of the more boring of sports fantasy-wise it’s a wet dream. So after a couple of months of play here’s the first update of the league for all to see with team by team breakdowns.

1st. [Ht]Kenyon isn’t a huge surprise as our current leader because well, he’s a huge sports nerd in his own right. What is a surprise is that his team was auto-drafted and after week 1 and a non-team update he was in last place. But since that early road bump he’s been on a tear with #1 ranked Berkman leading the way in a big way. Add to that Soriano’s triumphant return from injury, break out seasons for Soto and Church and big points from both Utley and Papelbon it won’t be a big surprise if Kenyon’s in the top 3 come season end.

2nd. [Ht]Fro’s team is stacked and he’s been either in 1st or 2nd all the way so far. There’s no real holes in his line-up and he features one of the better bullpens and can even afford to keep a strong pitcher on the bench thanks to some savvy free agent signings. Most of the sports nerds are worried he’ll be taking the MLB crown this year even if they don’t admit it.

3rd. [Ht]Mad’s squad has been hot n’ cold with a bottom tier position to start with but thanks to stellar pitching and a few trades this squad has moved on up. There’s a key injury that could begin the spiral out of the top 3 but only time will tell. Arguably the best rotation in the league could make or break this season, as it’s always risky to bank on your pitchers over every day batters but that’s the case as the bats have been cold as of late and strong starts by a few players have begun to tail off.

4th. Breathe’s team continues to be overhauled with the most trades and moves (33) this season. Some of those trades have been good and we’ve seen his line-up become more beefed but in the past few weeks a lot of bad luck has happened. Most of this has been down to injuries and it seems being on Breathe’s team is the kiss of death for some players and then others, like Volquez and Martinez have flourished once off his team. But his baseball knowledge will keep him knee deep in potential free agents that could make the difference down the stretch and expect him to use up all his moves before the all star break.

5th. [Ht]Wyld has been in the upper middle of the league all year and has a formidable squad. Decimated by injuries lately, with 3 current players on the DL, he’s lucky that triple crown threat Josh Hamilton has carried his team. FA signing Stephen Drew has been a great addition and Dan Uggla has been on fire as of late. With strong pitching there’s no doubt Bucky will be in the top 5 as long as no one else goes down for a long duration.

6th. Fiddlers team was the one most talked about at the start of the season, with some solid strength and pitching that can produce it didn’t help Fiddler managed to snag the big FA signing of the year, Carlos Quentin, who’s been lighting it up lately. Fiddler’s been up and down the middle of the standings and continues to slip and slide around. With 3 current injuries things can only get better right?

7th. Fluxcore is the first to admit his strongest sport isn’t baseball and after some early trade drama this was evident, but don’t discount him he’s been in the middle of the pack for awhile and has Vernon Wells on the DL. A good trade and solid players will ensure he gets a decent finish even with not knowing every stupid baseball stat out there.

8th. Rumple has had the most movement throughout the standings, being in 1st for a few days, then slipping to third for most of the rest he’s slid out of contention lately. I dunno why, his teams pretty good and his players aren’t playing horribly. It could be a bit of team mis-management as this weeks line-up features an empty hole in his reliever spot and hot players like Gordon, Byrnes and Matthews Jr. all riding the pine.

9th. [Ht]Blackie’s biggest problem has to be leaving two of the older injured pitchers out there, Pedro and Schilling, on his line-up for so long. Neither have done anything this year and don’t look too, maybe a late run by Pedro. Lucky for him he’s pretty deep everywhere to make up for this with good pitching to make up for it and some real sluggers with Manny, Tejada and 2008 pimp Chipper Jones. Even Pujols slips unnoticed on this team with all that depth, watch out as this line-up could climb quickly with some added depth to round out his positions.

10th. [Ht]Valence has always said he’s the top fantasy sports nerd but he’s had nothing but bad luck and mis-management to begin the season. Sure, some bad drops and injuries have hurt and he’s begun his climb out of the basement he dwelled in for so long. Another of the best FA signings has been McLouth but he’s going to need plenty of help to climb into the top 3 this year down already 500 from the lead.

11th. [Ht]Indig knew he’d have a hard time being able to manage his team from prison but he’s done alright, until the injury bug hit. Losing ARod and Derrek Lee slowing down, you knew it wasn’t going to go well. But the pitching is good, the hitting is there and Indig doesn’t get raped in his cell when the lights go out anymore for having so many Yankees.
12th. [Ht]Lox’s sad story of the last position is actually a good one. It all started with the release of Yahoo Live and Lox’s addiction to watching boobies and horseheads. After many night of hard spamming to see nudity Yahoo decided to shut Lox down and banned his account, which is tied to his Yahoo Sports account. So, he can blame mis-management, no sorry…no management on his inevitable last place finish as he begins to run out of things to bribe me with to do his roster moves week to week. Boohoo.

Mmmm…bacon.

I get a lot of questions regarding my past employment by Rockstar Games, especially with GTA 4 blowing all sales records for video games. No, I never worked on Grand Theft Autos and no I can’t get you games for free. Even though they are thought of as the bad boys of video games the reality is this is purely accident due to the non-corporate approach to their development which is more on the side of mis-management than an avoidance of this suit n’ tie culture. Because of this, you don’t hear a lot of their other controversial moves besides the Hot Coffee fiasco but there’s plenty of them occurring.

One of the issues that has popped up is how they were able to basically copy current cars without having to license them. We all know the Huntley Sport is a Range Rover because it looks just like it and any other game would be sued out the ass if they did this, but somehow Rockstar gets away with it. Then there’s voice talent. They decided to shy away from big name stars for this iteration and this is the norm for them as they like to use New York talent to fill all their voices. Well, the dumbass who voiced Nico Bellic is pissed now that he knows he’ll never see another dime of the millions GTA 4 is going to make. Well duh, that’s why they used you idiot!!

Tyranny better watch out.

So we’ve decided to add a few Hostile’s to the fold.

With Age of Conan roaring and plenty of other multiplayer games to jump in we’ve decided that adding a few guys will help us round out the numbers needed. All 3 have been a part of the Ht community for years now so none of them are strangers to our current core. As always, we’ll continue to add people from our community that we see dedicated to gaming and our depravity in IRC.

The first new addition is actually an old member. Vane was a former Ht and has played with us in a few games, most notably o.g. TF and Planetside. Vane was quite young when he first joined Ht and there was some e-drama from his teenage angst. But free of his nerdlove shackles  and old enough to drink Vane has returned to the fold for a lifetime of nasty links and kitchen sinks.

We had to reach deep into a box for this one as we’ve picked up Valence. A former rival from the now defunct CiaB Val is one of our resident sports nerds and emo lovin’ hippies and plays pretty much everything we pick up as well. While he has a long road ahead with a move to the northwest he’ll find gaming with all the westies much more convenient without problems of lag and timezoning.

The last addition is someone we’ve been considering for awhile, originally from our PlanetSide crew Bl4ckie has been added to the roster. He’s been evident in all the games we’ve been toying with the last couple years and he will be trying out many more as we continue to get bored of shitty ass games. Hopefully his bloodlust will ensure that he’s always at the forefront as a reliable bulletshield.

The first Age of Conan User Interface has surfaced.

It cleans up some stuff and makes viewing better overall, pretty standard for a first iteration.

The new Madden ’09 trailer definitely shows a polished and gorgeous game. But that’s not Maddens problem every year. It’s either too easy or too hard, the sim logic is horrible if you attempt to play Franchise and the Be A Pro still needs some work to be a viable every day mode. I myself have purchased every Madden since the early 90’s so I consider myself a sucker just for the new rosters and a few new features so the question is, is this the year that I and many others break off and just not purchase it? One of the most underrated games of all time has let some info out about the sequel and we’ve got a release date. It looks like September of this year we’ll get our hands on Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. If you’ve never played the original you’re missing out on some seriously incestuous fun!

So, Age of Conan has basically gone live. They had a pre-order early entry thing and a ton of people have jumped in and already leveled up past the 30’s. So the rest of us chumps who wait for the beginning of this week have some catching up to do. All reports are the PvP side of the world is complete anarchy and ganking is a regular occurrence. In todays world something all of us have had to learn is the art of spotting a Transformer. These nefarious creatures are something that has spawned in the last few decades in an alarming rate and their doppleganger abilities are becoming scary good. Sure, in most cases an alpha male can spot a Transformer from 100 yards, a lumpy adams apple giving away the entire secret but they continue to hone their skills to trick you and everyone out there has been surprised at some point by the level of ladyboyness that these vile creatures attain. But, the war on transgendering is not a war we a lone can fight so it’s better to arm yourself with the knowledge of dealing with one over defeating one. The number one thing that internoobs ask me about is downloading movies. I admit, I’m a bit of a leecher and watch plenty of movies thanks to rips. So I feel that if I share my knowledge of being able to watch crappy movies for free with some of you who aren’t aware how easy it is then I’ll have some friends on my waydown to hell.

The first thing you need is a DVD player that can play multiple formats, mainly .avi and DiVX, or an XBox 360. The next thing you’ll need is the ability to torrent, a torrent client and some way to get your rips to your media player such as a DVD burner or knowledge of how to stream media.

Once you’re ready to rock with the above then all it takes is knowing some of the more reputable websites that offer rips and a place to check the quality so you can be secure in knowing you’re wasting bandwith on a movie that is going to be playable. Also, knowing the formats of rips is an important step to understand what type of movie you’re downloading. So let’s start with that.

When a movie hits theatres it’s ripped immediately in CAM format. You want to avoid these at all costs, these are the crappy handheld cam rips and are in most cases unwatchable. Occasionally a gem will appear but it’s rare. While a movie is still in theatrical release sometimes a R5 or Workprint will appear. These are usually quite watchable but are dark and you’ll want to avoid action or horrors with these. On a big movie it’ll take a couple months after release but always before the movie hits DVD stands a DVDRIP will surface. These are the ones you want, basically watching the DVD itself but with a bit of pixelation. Here’s my current top 5 DVD rips to download.
