I was bored so I watched the Microsoft Keynote that opened CES last night. Nothing groundbreaking from the software giant but here are some cool takeaways from that:
- Windows 7 public beta on Friday.
- 17 Million Xbox Live Subscribers with 3 million new accounts over the last 3 months.
- Xbox accounted for over 80% of all downloaded songs for Guitar Hero/Rock Band.
- Halo Wars comes out Feb 28th with a demo on Feb 5th.
- Xbox will release a game creation playground called Kodu.

Skate 2 Multiplayer Demo Tonight

Skate 2 demo tonight. Odds of me getting adequate sleep, slim to none.
I personally don’t see any point to using Twitter. For anyone not familiar Twitter is a service that acts a “mini-blog” and you can update it from text messages or its web interface and its updates are published to your Twitter feed. People can follow your updates and you can can get updates on the people you want to stalk. A lot of high profile bloggers throw their twitter feed into their widgets on the side of their blog. Because you know, a blog within a blog is exactly what everyone needs.
Regardless of what I think, Twitter is a big deal and has caught on like wildfire. It raised 22 million in venture capital and does not run ad services on its website. It also turned down a $500 million buyout offer from facebook. So its another one of those
- Step 1) Draw traffic
- Step 2) Dispense ungodly amounts of bandwidth
- Step 3) ???????
- Step 4) Profit
websites like youtube/digg which actually lose money on paper but somehow are worth millions on the market. Its not taking the web by storm or on its way to the top by any means.
What really gets me here is, Twitter got so far with such a flawed security system. They did not throttle wrong password attempts or force account lockouts when a bad password was entered a few too many times. Come the fuck on now, this is as basic as security gets. Let me guess the Twitter staff uses the same account name and passwords for their email and their bank account right?
To take the idiocy a step further they made it so regular Twitter accounts also acted as administrative customer support accounts… sharing the same front end login interface.
Now it was dumb luck that one of these accounts got hacked but really it was only a matter of time. Who knows how long hackers have had easy access to regular accounts with no wrong password attempt throttles. Follow how an 18 year old hacker had a field day with a compromised twitter support staff account. The list of compromised accounts include President Elect Obama and Britney Spears.
Sadly, unlike the Sarah Palin email hack debacle it doesn’t look like 4chan was to blame for this one. They did claim the hacked macrumorslive feed from Macworld which was pretty hilarious.
CES is almost here. The gadget sites will soon be filled with articles e-blowing products no one in their right mind will actually buy. Its all about INNOVATION and going GREEN these days you know. ONN hits the nail on the head with this one and pokes some fun at macfags in the process.
Also, if you thought Justin Long was pushing his Apple customer image limits playing a gay porn star in Zach and Miri make a porno, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
We always have debates in #Hostile about great bad movies. I’m talking about action movies which are so insanely stupid they actually are a blast to watch. The debate in the channel has usually been about the Clive Owen flick Shoot ‘Em Up which some love and which some detest severely (me being one of them). Another one that I thought was amazing was Jason Statham’s Crank. It was over the top and completely unrealistic yet was just a fun thrill ride that I didn’t want to end. So you can imagine when the sequel Crank: High Voltage was announced I couldn’t wait to see it! I’ll still have to wait a few months but at least the first official trailer has been released. From watching this NSFW trailer a few things come to mind. One, it’s going to be even more ludicrous than the first, two there’s gonna be more public shagging going on of Amy Smart and three, Corey Haim gets his ass kicked hard in it!! Check it out.

Soulja Boy has been injecting himself into the Xbox 360 community. First he called out all live gamers to take him on and take “asswuppins for free”. Then he showed off his custom 360 and a video of him taunting fans with possible friend requests by making him say I love you then proceeding to call him a faggot over and over. Hey, he said “No Homo” Bro, lay off!
Soulja Boy also has plans of making a game and has been trying to pimp his clan SODMG by making some gears videos of them ripping it up. I think a lot of people may have noticed how nice his crib was cause some thugs rolled up and robbed him at gunpoint then posted a youtube video of their own. Oh snaps! Its not the first time hes been robbed and youtube drama ensued.
A lot of us can been seen playing tons of different games these days. We’re also split across platforms with a few people playing CoD:WaW on 360 and others on PC. Kart even owns both lol. So anyway, we’re going to organize a TF2 get together Sunday Night 1/4/2009 – 7PST / 10EST. No real planning, if anyone still has a server maybe we will run a pickup, maybe start a pub or just join one. So get your TF2 and Ventrilo up to date and we’ll rally up on IRC and Vent and have some fun with TF2 again.
Roll call in this thread.
Nielsen released its console survey results last month. Obviously these are not 100% accurate as its a small sample size but LOL the Original Xbox is more played than the PS3.
Today is a good day, because I found a Mitch Hedburgh quoter and the world juniors are heating up very quickly.

Well, aside from a few PC FPS games, I’ve gotten more mileage out of EA’s skate than any other game I’ve ever played. A big portion of that goes out to Something Awful’s skate thread and goonskate challenges. You can check out some highlights here. Followers will know I’ve already branded my Xbox 360 with a custom skate decal faceplate.
So obviously I’m super stoked for the skate 2 demo rumored to hit on the 8th.
I absolutely love the Something Awful forums. Seriously, the best 10$ I’ve ever spent on the internet. There have been many a great threads exposing child molesters and furrys over the years so you would think that if you were either of those you would stay away from posting there. But no, there is something that draws these fucked up people to post on the one place where they will be virtually torn apart and made fun of for all to see.
I was following wetlegs6’s recent post. It started innocent enough. He was going to post a photoshop/caption theme thread, where you post some examples of something funny and let other people come up with their own spin on the theme. Where he went wrong was he claimed himself as a “long time lurker” but procecced to sign his post with his handle and use links to imageshack for his example images. Imageshack hasn’t allowed hotlinks from SA for a long time now due to some e-drama. Well the internet detectives were off and soon furry photoshops were discovered via myspace and blog on just page 1 of the thread….then the underage bisexual encounters with underage boys youtube videos and forum posts… eventually his parents and the police are contacted.
It’s that time of year where all the movies for Oscar consideration get leaked. Now I’m sure you couldn’t give two shits about that but what really rules is that all of those movies get screener’ed overnight and all the movies in theaters are now watchable in great quality in the comfort of your own home. Thank god because during the holidays all the good shows go on hiatus and any way i can avoid all the retarded holiday programming I’ll take. So here’s a collection of some of the new screeners posted in the past week and remember not all of them are out yet so keep an eye out in the Pirates Bay Top 100 for new ones posted.
The Wrestler 1.38gb
Darren Aronofsky is an amazing director (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) and is back with a character piece of a wrestler and his struggles with life. Because this stars Mickey Rourke and his deformed face, I am sure this will be tough to watch as his plastic surgery mishaps have really made him a ghoulish figure. As with most rips it’s a bit dark but very watchable and I definitely enjoyed this movie even though you had to watch an elderly Marisa Tomei dance naked.
Slumdog Millionaire 700mb
I don’t think this one is even out in theaters yet and it’s already being heralded as the movie of the year in some circles. It’s a hindi movie about a boy who ends up on Who Wants To Be An Indian Millionaire and shows how he got to that point and his tribulations behind it. I haven’t had a chance to check this one out yet but the reviews are just gushing and some say it’s the best movie they’ve ever seen so I guess we’ll have to at least take a look. As an added bonus here’s the M.I.A. track from the movie as well.
Seven Pounds 1.37gb
In 7 Pounds Will Smith pays an enormous price to right the wrongs he has made and this movie plays on the suspense of his motives to get there. While it’s a very depressing movie it is well done and you can tell Will Smith is the top guy in Hollywood to get this script because this is one of those flicks that really lets him become the focal point of everything you know while you watch it. The ratings for the movie aren’t good which surprises me.
Quantum of Solace 700mb
The latest installment in the Bond series is as impressive as I’ve seen in the past but the quality of this movie to me was all of the great action scenes and the intricacy of everything. Even though this is a stellar rip you’re never going to get the smoothness that a dvd or blu-ray is going to deliver but if you really want to see it this is a very acceptable device. Daniel Craig is a great Bond and while this one isn’t much different from any of the other ‘stop the evil super villain’ plots it’s still tense and absorbing and worth watching.
Gran Turino 1.37gb
Clint Eastwood’s supposed last acting performance is being well received and has definitely been in talks about the awards it will be up for. A story about a grizzled old man and his war with an azn street gang I look forward to seeing this one as nothing beats a crotchety old man wailing on some azns with his cane like he was back in ‘Nam high on heroin. I haven’t verified the quality on this one yet so don’t come crying to me if it isn’t up to your standards your majesty, sheesh.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 1.69gb
Ok, this movie looks kinda dumb. Brad Pitt is born as an old man and begins to age backwards, meanwhile he meets a very young Kate Blanchett and their lives entwine throughout the length of their lives. I know, corny but for some reason I still want to see it. Unfortunately the feedback on this screener is that it was originally encoded as a .mov file and the audio is borked halfway through thanks to 2 different audio channels. Brilliant. Skip it until it’s been re-posted properly folks.
