The Future Ain’t That Bright

It’s been pretty boring in gaming land as the Christmas epic titles have faded and there’s a desolate wasteland of crap being released lately. Nothing really huge on the horizon other than the next GTA installment. But the gaming world continues to roll on regardless so don’t shit a brick and just stay calm!!!

Namco Sells Out

By now you’ve most likely heard about the additions of the Star Wars character additions to Soul Calibre IV. While I hate seeing a company sell oput like this and try to rustle more sales based off some lame addition, this one I like. Soul Calibre is far and away the best fighter in my opinion, with great weaponry and defensive abilities. So when Yoda and Darth Vader got added it made sense, as killer combos with the sabres will just work. Check out all the screenshots.

Man, it’s been a few weeks since Christmas ended but I’m still a little broken up. My Christmas didn’t go so well. Luckily it was all caught on tape. Read more »

Insert Catchy Title

Okay, I’m back from the West Coast and feeling quite lazy, must be the jet lag. Nor Cal sucks a fatty except for South Lake Tahoe. Trying to get back into blogging here but I keep slacking. Today, I decided I’d at least dump everything I laughed at today into a txt file so you can get your link on.

Oh lets see what else I got….some pics from my trip.

Whats that at the end of Lombard?

Nerd Herding

CES 2008 is underway! Technofiles are jerkin’ it right now to all the new cool stuff available. You can watch that shit on G4. All I care about is getting one of these Alienware monitors sometime this year.

MMOchester United

In a world where almost 10 million people play World of Warcraft it comes as no surprise as game developers scramble to make the next best MMO. But like many in the past, they will stumble and fail miserably, wasting millions on a brutal concept that could of been avoided in the first place. We’ve seen great MMO’s live forever like Ultima Online and good ones fail because of a few flaws like Shadowbane. We’ve seen horribly implemented ones fail right out of the gate or even in the beta like the Matrix Online but still the developers continue to try and build the next best world. As a game designer I can’t wait for my opportunity to create a world and civilization one day to curb my god complex but when i do I want it to be actually successful and not fail overnight.

One game I already foresee a mighty failure for is Football Superstars. An ambitious idea where you’ll be able to play football in an ongoing world, manage your player or an entire club, it’s an attempt to bring the dominant line of sports gaming into the MMO realm. But here’s the problem. You’re attempting to sway members of 2 elite gaming groups. In one hand you have the footballers who have devote followings to Pro Evo, FIFA and of course the very deep Football Manager series. Then you have the MMOer’s, who in most cases the only sport they’ve ever played is the flicking of boogers from their computer chair. And what’s the most important part of an MMO? Giving deep and complex gameplay that isn’t overly repetitive. But wait, what is soccer? One of the most repetitive and simplistic sports in the world. This just isn’t going to go well, mark my words. But hey, least you can make a hot chick and prance around in a uniform…right?

Learn 2 Aim

Godamn motherfuckin’ cheaters always ruining games nowadays. Just like warezers there’s no way to stop them and as fixes come out new hacks find their way into the hands of the unskilled. TF2 didn’t need another reason to suck and with an aimbot appearing it’s just another in a long list of shit Valve needs to get off it’s ass and fix. But they are still rolling around in the accolades of Portal and haven’t bothered with TF2 in ages. Think I’ll stick to playing Poker Smash instead. Click the jump to watch the TF2 aimbot at work. For The Flash Freaks

There was a couple of pretty sweet flash games posted by Zane in the flash games thread on the forums. One of them mixes Starcraft with the turret brand of flash games out there called Starcraft FA 5 and while it’s a long load it’s definitely loaded with zergy goodness.

But the one I really liked was Cursor 10 which amazingly lets you play co-op puzzle gameplay…with yourself. No shit, try and it and see it’s brilliant. And when you fail, the only person you have to blame is yourself.

Mosh’n Mouth

Some Hostile Related History

TroN pasted an old link in IRC today that detailed some of the gaming history one of our oldest members [Ht]Buri. It’s pretty ancient, from 1999. I noticed there was also a couple of ex Hostile’s with their histories recorded back then, namely BlackOPS aka dante and Hate. Other notables bio’s included Rumple, Thrymm and Sinister. Get yer old schoolin’ on.

I’m Deaf & I Can’t Get Down!

Pacemaker is a revolutionary portable DJ iPod inspired piece that will allow you to show up at a party, plug it in and do everything 2 turntables and a mixer could pull off. Very cool, although from what I’ve seen from iPod DJ’s is that people can never take you seriously when you show up and just plug something in. Pacemaker won’t be out until February but in the meantime you can head over to their site, register and play with the functionality of the product. If you like it let me know and I will buy you one cuz I’m rich bitch!!!
