One More Step to the Superbowl
This Sunday is a good one for the football fans. We’ve got the steam rolling Patriots up against the star studded Chargers and the upstart Giants heading into Lambeau for a shot at Favre and the Pack attack. Hopefully the Giants can go all the way to the Superbowl after an amazing upset of the hapless Cowboys. The Wisconsin faithful are going to great lengths to throw off the illustrious Eli Manning but it won’t be enough this Sunday so place your bets.

I know I’m not the only one completely bored to hell with games lately. Sure TF2 and COD4 are good enough to fuck around with and blow peoples heads off but the team and competition aspects just aren’t there for most of us anymore. So while scouring for alternatives to these shooters I have stumbled across a game called Savage 2. The first Savage was well liked by the gamers so there’s something worth looking into. To describe this iteration is kind of difficult however.
Think of Natural Selection if it was in the WoW world. It’s a team based shooter with a team of RPG’ed players (hit points and mana) and one of the players being a Commander and using RTS mode to help their team. At the same time it’s a persistent fantasy world with pretty decent graphics, so the WoW similarities are there as well. Watch the trailer and make your assumptions from that.
So it’s playable as of today and the great thing about this is it’s a one time fee of $30 and then no monthly payments or anything. A good deal for anyone really. Feedback from Pyre who has tried it out is it’s decent but currently a bit laggy. But if you’re like me and bored to tears with the current crop of games then it’s time to get Savage!

For those who still rock the Team Fortress2ness you’ll want to refresh your favorite servers list as [Ht] Hollie’s West Coast Whorehouse has moved from it’s previous California location up to Seattle. This is great news for the Pacific Northwest TFer’s in our community as Seattle is the prime location for all of us and with West Coast Warfare going down, fills a nice void there. Thanks to Beetinc for hosting this server which primarily is a Duel server. Look for lots of custom maps to pop up here. So either scan and find it or manually add the new ip: 63.208.142.174:27015.
Anything else interesting in the TF2 world? Well they finally announced that there’s 2 new official maps on their way, which we’ll see most likely in late February. There’s a hilarious comic created using Garry’s Mod to show a short story about the HW Guy. And then there’s some guy out there with way too much time on his hands who mods a case to resemble a sentry gun.
A very historic day has passed as ESPN has announced that they will now broadcast events from the MLG. Pro gaming now making its way onto ESPN is pretty huge but from previous broadcasts of the MLG I already know watching 2 teams of kids compete at Halo isn’t all that exciting. Hopefully we’ll see a barrage of interesting games to watch. But until then we’ll hold our breath awaiting kids beginning to cry as they get knocked the fuck out for all to see.
One of my favorite books I read as a kid were the original Dragonlance trilogy. This epic story then led to tons of spin-off books and an entire universe was created that became lore in the D & D world as well. So it was only a matter of time before someone noticed how great the original story was and turned it into a movie. So finally, the trailer gets released and all I can say is WHAT THE FUCK. It looks like a modern day He-Man/GI Joe with the insanely crappy character art and the below par CGI dragons. Hopefully this will lead to a live action movie down the road much like the Lord of the Rings series but until then I think I’ll be avoiding this one like the plague.
