Midway’s track record for games has been pretty abysmal for the last decade or so. So it doesn’t come as a huge surprise that they are trying to really step outside of the box to get a big hit. They’ve announced Welcome To Vegas, an open world game that lets you “save Vegas” from becoming a family amusement style city by repeatedly sinning. It was beautiful to watch the much chastised Eli to Plaxico combination come to life versus the pristine Patriots and end their remarkable run. Here’s some good news. Our favorite current shooter, Call of Duty 4, has announced that the console version will have downloadable content coming this spring! So new multiplayer maps for sure. Hopefully some new game modes get slipped in as well. Whatever it is, it’ll be worth it. PC players fear not, there’s a map contest going on as well so get those map tools rollin’.

There’s a bevvy of MMO’s on the horizon yet none seemed poised to take on the sheer vastness of World of Warcraft. It’s tough, the game is great and sets a real precedence for the level of depth you need to have in one of these enormous games. To this date, the only large market ones have been Ultima Online, Everquest and WoW. But there’s some alternative titles that have done fairly well considering, Second Life has a large user base and continues to grow and then there’s the untapped childrens market which till now has been dominated by the shitty Club Penguin which has an enormous user base, most likely because it’s free. But fear not kiddies, Hello Kitty Online is coming!! Brace yourselves.

One of the features of Pirates of the Burning Sea is being able to use a custom flag for your ships during naval combat. Ht has a custom flag set-up but we need votes to make it happen! Ah yes, the day many of us have been waiting for. The motherfuckin’ Superbowl. David vs. Goliath. The Giant Killers vs. the bitch ass cheaters. It will be no surprise if the Patriots knock off the Giants. Everything is in their favor and that stupid pretty boy Brady seems to always pull out just in time. But, if the G-men can pull off the huge upset (hello, last 3 playoff games?) then my constant adulations of Elisha Manning and his sidekick Blaxico will have come true and all will know I am the true sports guru. I was reading Nerd World, a blog from one of the producers of the Simpsons who obviously isn’t doing jack shit right now with the writers strike and has plenty of time to write about other stupid stuff. A few gaming tidbits noticed were dug up that may be of interest to you other nerds. Like The Game Critic Awards who named BioShock game of the year. At least you get to see how the judges voted in this one. One of the games that some people voted very highly but didn’t make the list is Desktop Tower Defence which is one dope flash game! I bet you’ve never even heard of it, noob. There’s also word of more Portal coming from Valve, well duh. It’s easily the most innovative game we’ve seen in years and of course had a great sense of humour with the best game credits of all time.
