2009 Movie Night

Last week I helped you watch the movies up for Oscars. Now it’s time to watch my current top 5 rips.

RocknRolla 710mb
Guy Ritchie finally goes back to the streets of London and gets into what he is good at. Putting together a bunch of macho men and making them look silly and shoot the shit out of each other. Now RocknRolla isn’t as violent as his other endeavors but it definitely moves at a quick pace even through the slow start of the storytelling. While the cast is comprised of a lot of his regulars Gerard Butler of 300 fame stars and has Ludacris and Jeremy Piven with supporting roles. As always greed drives the story and it’s a good one and was worth waiting for this great DVD rip.

Repo: The Genetic Opera 711mb
If you check out the trailer you’d think this is one fucked up movie. And hopefully it is. I’ve been waiting to see this as I’m sick of comic book style movies that are so rated PG it’s like watching Walt Disney jerk off in your ear and hoped this one would break the mold. I haven’t watched it yet as I’ve been waiting to be in the right mood but it does have an interesting story, a futuristic setting and possibly a Paris Hilton sighting we all won’t have nightmares about.

Max Payne 701mb
Another I haven’t watched yet but I’m interested to see how Marky Mark takes on the brooding Max Payne. Wahlberg is known for his gruff manner and this could be a great fit. As with any video game based movie I do expect there to be some great action scenes with the stupidest story imaginable and from all accounts this one won’t disappoint in that regard. Things could of been worse, they could of gotten Vin Diesel instead.

Zack & Miri Make a Porno 700mb
I have to say I was a little bit disappointed with this comedy. I was expecting a lot I guess and Kevin Smith just does not hold up to an Apatow made movie, even when Smith is trying to emulate him as much as humanly possible. But it is a funny flick and there are some moments worthy of a chuckle. Much like Pineapple Express Seth Rogen builds upon his status as the most personable stoner in the business and helps keep this movie afloat.

The Wackness 701mb
This one came out a few months ago and tells the story of a New York petty drug dealer and his days in 1994. Ben Kingsley plays his psychiatrist/customer who also has a daughter the main character is interested in. This one was shot well and infuses some of the early hip hop scene into it which really helped set the time period to make it believable. The main guy is kind of depressing and a bit of a schmoe and I didn’t really feel like I cared if he made out in the end but maybe you will like him more than I did.

Some other new rips worth checking out:

Mirrors, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Saw 5, Eagle Eye, Bolt, Resident Evil Degeneration
