Critically Disclaimered

As someone who works in the entertainment industry, reviews are a tough pill to swallow sometimes. A lot can hinge on some pasty nerds thoughts on your product; be it a movie, a video game or a book you just wrote one persons bad mood can be your downfall. Because of this sites that amalgamate reviews seem to be used as industry standards and I know from experience I’d rather get a collection of reviews and find their average over one lone review. One site I like that does this is MetaCritic which covers all of the entertainment sectors.

Let’s see what’s hot and what’s not currently.

As movies go, the Bourne Ultimatum is receiving rave reviews and has gained an overall 85 rating. Some are saying it’s the best of the three. Pixar’s Ratatouille continues to have one of the highest ratings ever accumulated with a 95. Amazing, I haven’t seen it and will wait to view before judging it. I was looking forward to Hot Rod starring Andy Samberg from Saturday Night Live but after reading the reviews and the accumulated 43 rating, think that will be a DiVX over theatre viewing.

For games, it’s been a slow month so not a lot being reviewed. An interesting one that was just posted is the PS3 only Lair dragon riding game which doesn’t have an official score yet but will be around the 70 rating area. Which isn’t good as this was one of the titles PS3 was banking on people needing to own. A surprising rating for another PS3 only title is for Ninja Gaiden Sigma which has an overall 88 rating. PS3 needs more of these highly rated exclusives if they plan to overtake the other 2. Indig reviewed Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii which right now has a 79 rating, which is good for a Wii title. The Resident Evil 4 version for the Wii clocks in with a 91 rating and is value priced as well.

So yeah, research your shit before you buy something! I won’t get into TV or music as everyone has different tastes. I’d review more books if I didn’t have PC based ADD and could read more than 10 pages without going into convulsions. Is there even any books reading anymore? I’m not into any of the Harry Potter books and the Penthouse Letters get old fast!
