Into The Wild

This is Sean Penn's baby and he went out and got a stellar cast for it. Emile Hirsch, Vince Vaughn, Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt, and Catherine Keener all have strong characters that make this movie a true treat. Hirsch plays a 22 year old that struggles with his family and upon graduation just picks up and leaves. His goal, to hit up Alaska and traverse through the wilds, seeing if he can withstand the rigorous wilderness. He sees this as the true merit to becoming a man and not going to college or getting some cushy job. Along his road trip he meets a cast of interesting characters that help shape him and vice versa. It's a very compelling and true story, it has its ups and downs but always stays true to the character.

No Rina sightings at all in the movie though.  Undecided

Rating: 8/10

I wanted to ravage the hippy guitarist chick like a caveman just discovering the female body.

Some spoilers I guess, nothing major.

This movie was just trying too hard to make the main character look like some amazing guy, when he was just a fucking bum.  I kept thinking it would be a good book but just made for a pretty mediocre movie.

The scene where he seems like he is going to call his sister, why put that there. He bailed on her, when they portrayed how much she confided in him and admired him. Hes a worthless piece of shit for doing that to her if thats true. The shit he screams when hes smoking the meat in the wilderness, like seriously, trying way to hard here, we got that whole I hate my dad point already about an hour and a half ago.

It reminded me of the great abyss line from Garden State, if you are trying to get a point across for the entire viewing audience, you are going to ruin it for people who even half pay attention to symbolism and don't need shit spelled out for them several times, then jammed so obviously in their face. Beating a dead horse and all.

The cover of the DVD should should be black with bright red text that says "THE MAN IN THIS MOVIE IS TRYING TO FIND HIMSELF. ALSO, HE DISLIKES HIS PARENTS". Just to make sure NO ONE can miss the point of this movie.

Peg this one about 3/10. I'd rather watch family guy reruns.
